— Access. Equity. Community.
Empowering Doulas.
Strengthening Families.
Transforming Systems.
Everyone deserves compassionate, culturally responsive care regardless of their background or income.
Who Are WeDoulaBrella Institute is a national nonprofit expanding access to birth and postpartum doula training and care for the communities that need it most. Through subsidized doula training, workforce development, and advocacy partnerships, we help aspiring doulas build meaningful careers close to their hearts and home.
Subsidized Training and Community Access
Breaking Down Barriers to Professional Doula Training
What professional doula training understands my culture, my community, and my story?
How can I serve my neighbors and build a flexible career? Can I do work that matters?
How can a doula scholarship remove the financial barriers between you and certification?
We help open the door to childbirth and postpartum doula training in every community.
Through grants, sponsorships, scholarships, and culturally competent instruction, DoulaBrella Institute makes certification and community access possible for BIPOC, LGBTQ+, Indigenous, rural, urban, and other vulnerable communities and individuals.
Our goal is simple. We want diverse representation in birth work, where every family can be supported by someone who understands their journey, and every person has the individual care they desire. When cost no longer determines who gets to serve, whole communities gain access to the care they deserve.
Workforce Development and Ongoing Training
Building Meaningful Doula Careers Close to Home
How do we bring accessible, culturally competent doula care to the communities that need it most?
How do we support sustainable careers for individuals in underserved communities?
How do we advocate for doula services to be integrated into more healthcare systems?
Your investment builds a community-based workforce pipeline, not just a training program.
DoulaBrella Institute combines evidence-based training, structured mentoring, and an ongoing support community to help individuals from underserved communities enter and stay in the profession.
The impact is measurable, positive outcomes in communities where data shows maternal and infant mortality rates remain too high. By increasing the number of doulas in underserved communities and bridging medical care with cultural understanding, we expand access to maternal health care and strengthen long-term community care capacity. We also open a path to economic mobility, helping individuals build sustainable, purpose-driven careers where they live. By funding doula workforce development, you help embed culturally competent care directly in underserved communities and support the systemic change that makes equitable, family-centered care possible.
Doula Advocacy and
Collaborations
Bridging Doulas, Hospitals, and Policy to Transform Maternal Care
How can we advance health equity for underserved mothers, babies, and families?
How can we build a family-centered care model that connects providers rather than dividing them?
How can we ensure the doulas we work with are both professionally trained and reliable?
Hospitals, insurers, and healthcare partners are constantly seeking practical ways to improve outcomes, increase patient satisfaction, and advance health equity.
DoulaBrella Institute offers a trusted nonprofit partner that draws on research and decades of experience to help you do exactly that. Our doulas are professionally trained, culturally competent, and supported through evidence-based collaboration.
Through group training for nurses and staff, trained doulas in the NICU, and postpartum support for patients, we strengthen care integration across your team. Together, we build linkages and collaboration among providers and a model of care where families and clinicians work as one.
Care that Transforms Lives & Strengthens CommunitiesWhy We Do This Work
Being a doula is heart-centered work. It transforms lives, deepens purpose, and becomes part of who we are. We ask our community to lead with love, understanding, and empathy in every interaction. That care moves outward, reaching individuals, families, and the communities we serve together.
One Mission, Three Connected Ways to Support Doulas & FamiliesHow DoulaBrella Institute Fits Together
DoulaBrella is built as one caring family of services, each with a distinct role and a shared purpose. Together, we train doulas, connect families, link maternal health providers, and open doors for communities long left out. Each part strengthens the others, and all share a common belief: The family belongs at the center of the birth ecosystem, where doulas, providers, and communities all collaborate with care.
Training & Community
Our for-profit training hub prepares birth and postpartum doulas through evidence-based, heart-centered learning. Beyond our certification, we offer doulas mentoring and an ongoing support community so that every doula feels equipped to grow.
Personalized Matching
Our matching service connects families with the right professional doula, based on skills, personality, and unique needs. The process is family-centered and nonjudgmental, guiding families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum months.
Access & Advocacy
Our nonprofit expands access through subsidized doula training, workforce development, advocacy, and partnerships. We invest in doulas from underserved communities and collaborate with hospitals, funders, and policymakers to advance maternal health equity.
Voices From Our Community
“Taking this class gave me a feeling of peace. Like this is what I needed to round out my knowledge to be able to help a vulnerable community. These ladies are incredible.”
— Sheena (Binghamton, NY)
"I completed both the birth and postpartum training sessions, each held over a weekend in a small, tight-knit group, and by the end, we truly felt like family. The experience was raw, personal, and deeply emotional in the best way. I left each weekend feeling more in touch with myself and with the work itself.”
— Emily (Buffalo, NY)
“Living in a rural area in Texas we face a "doula desert" where local families lack necessary support, and our existing doulas are often overwhelmed and isolated. I am so grateful to the DoulaBrella team and their openness to come to our community and not only train new doulas, but also build us a network and ongoing support. They are eliminating barriers and building care with such ease, grace, and simplicity.”
— Melodya (Harlingen, TX)
